Momentum Hackney Supports Hackney South Grassroots Left Slate For Conference Delegates
Hackney South and Shoreditch CLP are picking their delegates for Labour Conference 2018 in Liverpool and crowdfunding to send as many members as possible.
The CLP’s delegates for conference will be picked through voting at the March CLP General Meeting, to be held on Thursday 22nd March 2018 from 19:30 at The Salvation Army Church and Community Centre, 70 Mare Street, Hackney, E8 4RT. The meeting is an All Member meeting, meaning any full member of the Hackney South CLP can turn up and vote for delegates.
A blog by a previous conference delegate who highlights why more delegates should go and why it is important that the left leaning delegates supportive of the party’s direction under Jeremy’s leadership should be voted to attend, you can read the blog here.
It is extremely important that Corbyn supporting Labour members of the CLP turn up to the meeting, on time, and vote for candidates that will represent the CLP at conference in a way that supports the Labour Party continuing to travel in the democratic and socialist trajectory as outlined and established by Jeremy’s leadership campaigns and the 2017 manifesto.
In that respect, Momentum Hackney have decided to support the Hackney South Grassroots Left Slate for conference delegates.
The bulk of the HSGL’s slate – the 6 candidates with already-agreed CLP financing – was put together by a widely-advertised meeting of ordinary HSGL members (the Left-caucus of the Hackney South CLP) on the basis of written submissions sought from the members of its extensive mailing list. The final two members were chosen, for reasons of practicality and in response to the success of the HSGL’s fundraiser, by four trusted nominees of that selection meeting. The slate that emerged from this process reflects the diversity of the Hackney South community and presents 8 individuals with have a strong track-record of active support of the political priorities of the present Labour leadership.
The Steering Committee of Momentum Hackney has thus had no hesitation in urging all members and supporters of Momentum Hackney and the Hackney South Labour party to get behind this Slate, to promote it on social media and to work for the election of its members as Conference Delegates at the next General Committee meeting of the Hackney South and Shoreditch CLP.
Momentum Hackney will be hosting a phonebank on to get out the Corbyn-supporting vote for the Hackney South CLP conference delegate meeting in order to support the HSGL Slate so as we can pick delegates that reflect the desire of the CLP and wider membership to support Jeremy Corbyn’s vision for Labour. You can find the details of the phonebank here.
